Submission Guidelines

Penslips publishes original writing in Urdu, English, and all regional languages of Pakistan. For literature in any other language, we only publish translations into Urdu or English.

We accept poetry, short fiction, and essays. We also welcome book reviews, author profiles, and short biographies of reasonable length.

Before you submit, please note:

We do not accept offensive, excessively violent, or sexually explicit content.

Translated work is welcome.

Note: Translator is solely responsible for obtaining permission from the original author or rights holder.  Penslips will not be held responsible for any violation of third-party rights.

How to submit

Cut and paste your submission into the body of an email — no attachments — and send it to penslipsmagazine@gmail.com. Write the word Submission in the subject line, nothing else.

Include your full name and a short bio.

What to expect:

  • We publish monthly.
  • We receive a high volume of submissions. Due to this, we are unable to confirm receipt, notify you of acceptance, or provide individual feedback on rejected work.
  • All published pieces are shared on our Facebook page. If your work has been accepted, you will see it there.
  • If your work has not yet been published and you wish to withdraw it, reply to your original submission email with a withdrawal request and we will remove it from our queue.
  • Please do not follow up on submissions by email.
